Staff photographer by International News Photos; included in the exhibition New Faces at the Museum of Modern Art; Works together with Paul Strand.

1947

Begins activities as a freelance photojournalist with journeys throughout the United States on assignments for Fortune, Look, Parade, Life, Natural History, The Sunday Times and numerous industrial magazines, non–profit organizations and advertising campaigns

Travels to Mexico.
Completes a photo essay on a Long Island Trucker.

1955

Begins in Edward Steichen’s landmark exhibition The Family of Man at MOMA.

Photo essay on Pablo Casals´.

Began extensively traveling to Central America, South America, Europe, The
Arctic, Asia & Africa.

1958

The MOMA purchases works by Arthur Leipzig for its collection and exhibits them

1961-1962

Participates in the exhibition Photography as a Fine Art in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
Honored with the Urban League Photography Award

1963

Begins to teach photography at Long Island University, New York.

1967

Takes part in the Exhibition Expo 67 Man and His World

1968

Appointed Professor of Art and Director of Photography at Long Island University,
a position which he subsequently holds for 22 years

1969

Travels to Morocco in order to document the ORT program which includes the
education of Moroccan Jews
Receives the Art Directors Award for a reportage about Texaco oil workers

1971

Photo essay traveling in the footsteps of Horace Greeley’s journey in 1859 , Overland Journey to San Francisco.

1976-1977

Works on the photo project New Immigrants to the United States

1977

Publishes works in the book Family of Children (Grosset & Dunlap), dedicated to Edward Steichen
Solo exhibition Selected Photographs in the Midtown Y Gallery

1978

Participates in the exhibition Photo League, International Center of Photography, New York

1979

Travels to Israel for a photo documentation about the Bedouins in the Negev
Desert; travels to Ethiopia for an essay about Ethiopian Jews

1980-1981

Travels to Hungary, Romania, Argentina, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, India and
Germany for the photo project Jewish Life Around the World, which was exhibited
in 1982 in the Nassau County Museum of Art and was shown until 1988 at other locations in the United States

1983

Receives the Long Island University Trustees Award for Scholarly Achievement.

1986

Solo exhibition in the Henry Settlement House, New York City.

1987

Participates in the exhibitions Classic Photographs from the Brooklyn Museum Collection and Generations, Smithsonian Museum, Washington, D.C.

1988

Participates in the exhibition Master Photographs from “Photography in the Fine Arts,” International Center of Photography, New York

1989

Solo exhibition and catalogue Arthur Leipzig - A Retrospective,
Hillwood Art Gallery/ Long Island University.

1996

Exhibition Growing Up in New York, Museum of the City of New York.
Leipzig begins a project dealing with the forces of nature.

1998

Exhibition Arthur Leipzig: A World View, Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York.

2004

Honored with the Lucie Award for outstanding achievement in Fine Art Photography.

2006

Exhibition On Assignment with Arthur Leipzig in Columbus Museum of Art and other places.

2008-2009

Solo exhibition Arthur Leipzig - Next Stop New York, Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum Aachen, Städtische Galerie Iserlohn.



Arthur Leipzig lives in Sea Cliff, Long Island.

Leipzig has published three books:
